In recent years, quite a few actors, who we probably didn’t realize had great potential, have emerged with some laud-worthy performances. One such actress is Sheeba Chaddha. From the loving “Maa” to the annoying “Aunt”, a privileged West Delhi lady and even a true-blue antagonist, Sheeba has played a variety of roles. Take a look at some of our favourite performances by the actress you shouldn’t miss.
- Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2: Agni Pariksha
After playing a supportive mother or a meddlesome aunt numerous times, Sheeba truly showcased her acting mettle with Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2: Agni Pariksha as the cut-throat antagonist. In this Khuda Haafiz sequel, the story follows Sameer (Vidyut Jammwal) and Nargis (Shivaleeka Oberoi) as they finally find happiness with an adoptive child Nandini, only to be deprived of it by powermongers of the society. The film then follows Sameer as he goes against all odds to protect his family. Khuda Haafiz – 2 has shown us a completely different and unexpected side of Sheeba making it one of her best performances. The film is set to premiere on ZEE5 Global on September 2.
- Dum Laga Ke Haisha
Sheeba broke a familiar stereotype with her role in the 2015 rom-com, Dum Laga Ke Haisha – a movie that focused on a school dropout who hesitantly marries an educated but overweight girl and their love story that transpired. We’ve all seen a nosey aunt in several movies, but rarely ever do we see her side of the story. What used to be a side character we hated, suddenly became a real person that we either related or sympathised with. In fact, if it wasn’t for her, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Prem would’ve probably lost Bhumi Pednekar’s Sandhya without even realizing his true feelings.
- Badhaai Do
Another masterpiece by Sheeba Chaddha was Badhaai Do, the spiritual sequel to her Badhaai Ho, a movie that talked about the lesser-known topic of a Lavender marriage. Here, she played the meek mother in a traditionally opinionated family who never voiced her opinions. However, she’s possibly the only one who truly understands Ayushmann Khurrana’s Shardul and his dilemma of not being what society expects him to be. The way she tells her whole family about Sumi’s(Bhumi Pednekar) sexuality, but eventually understands and accepts her son for his sexuality shows her character development as well. The mother-son embrace at the end, truly makes you emotional.
- Sharmaji Namkeen
With her vibrant smile and excellent comic timing, Sheeba Chaddha shines bright in this movie. As a privileged lady from West Delhi, Chaddha’s character is a vivid kitty party lover, who is also posh but fun and friendly. Sharmaji Namkeen follows the story of Brij Gopal Sharma who was forced to retire as he sets off to explore his varied interests, attracting several adverse reactions from his family members. In this, Chaddha came in like a fresh breath of air and elevated the already wonderful Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal starrer, making it an absolute delight to watch.
Sheeba has also given some noteworthy performances in films like Pagglait, Gully Boy and Zero among others. The actress also stood out in series such as Bandish Bandits, Mirzapur, Taj Mahal 1989 and many others.
